Crowns Q & A

What is a dental crown?

Dental crowns, also known as dental caps, reliably provide long-lasting repair or restoration of functionally damaged, cosmetically undesirable, and even missing teeth. Made of high-grade porcelain, the crown sits on top of or surrounds a tooth or implant and is bonded using dental cement.

After getting a crown, your teeth feel and look natural while your bite and smile are fully restored.

Why would I need a dental crown?

Crowns are an effective, reliable, and versatile solution to a variety of dental problems. With Dr. Porsch’s expertise, he uses crowns to address conditions, including, but not limited to:

  • Missing teeth
  • Broken or decaying teeth
  • Excessively worn teeth
  • Damaged pre-existing crowns or fillings
  • Teeth with root canal fillings at risk of breaking
  • Cosmetic issues unsuitable for veneers

With decades of experience, a commitment to the best techniques, and a focus on your comfort and happiness, Dr. Porsch and his team can develop a personalized plan to have you looking and feeling your best with dental crowns.

How do dental crowns work?

If following the consultation, you and Dr. Porsch determine that a crown is right for you, you need at least two visits to Porsch Dental.

In your first visit, Dr. Porsch and his team remove any decay, shape your tooth, and take an impression that is used to make your custom crown. To keep it protected between visits, he fits the tooth with a temporary crown made of either plastic or metal.

In your second visit, Dr. Porsch removes the temporary crown then fits and adjusts your definitive, personalized, high-grade porcelain crown. This adjustment process ensures it looks and feels just right. Finally, he uses dental cement to bond the crown.

The procedure may cause some irritation or inflammation, and you may experience some sensitivity, but this subsides within a few days.

This long-lasting solution is undetectable, even to your closest loved ones. With proper hygiene and regular check-ups, your crown keeps your tooth healthy and your smile beautiful for up to 30 years.

If you have any dental problems, contact Porsch Dental today to see if a dental crown can help.
